I am going to share the evolution that Kubernetes has had since the beginning of its history, the impact it has had on the technology market and its future. I am going to share my vision from the experience of having worked in 3 of the main contributors to Kubernetes technology. Google, Red Hat and VMware.

Margarita has been working in Tech, and in particular in OSS, for more than 20 years. She has worked in big tech and smaller startups, as both an individual contributor and a manager, experienced a number of successes and also some interesting challenges. This presentation will cover some of the lessons learned along the way, as well as discuss the different forms that success may look like for people interested in working 100% with Open Source Software.

The Latin American region embraces an open-source culture and is already experiencing increased innovation, efficiency, and collaboration. We are excited to share our insights and experiences as they continue this journey. Let's discuss how joining the TODO Group and adopting OSPO demonstrates the transformative power of open source, creating a dynamic, inclusive, and forward-thinking work environment.

Kubernetes is a powerful tool for deploying microservices applications offering features such as auto-scaling and multi-tenancy among others. But, what about networking? How does communication between workloads take place? Which components ensure reliable communication?. This talk aims to answer these questions by delivering a high level overview about the networking building blocks. Attendees will embark on a journey that begins with exploring how CNIs (Container Network Interface) enable Pod to Pod communication. Next, we will discuss the options for exposing applications to the outside world. Finally, attendees will learn how the novel Service Mesh approach improves the observability and security of Kubernetes workloads while also bringing advanced routing capabilities. By the end of the session, attendees will have a solid understanding about the scope and operation of Kubernetes networking as well as its role in hosting cloud-native workloads.

Karpenter is a Kubernetes node lifecycle manager launched in 2021 by AWS, it has joined the CNCF SIG Autoscaling and transitioned to the beta phase. Karpenter has become a de facto standard to maximize the scaling properties of Kubernetes, it has been adopted already by Azure into their managed Kubernetes service. As Kubernetes gains widespread adoption across organizations for mission-critical workloads, it becomes crucial to establish standardized approaches to scaling. This encompasses not only the technical aspects but also the rationale behind scaling decisions and the appropriate timing for it. Additionally, it is imperative to evaluate the costs, encompassing operational overheads, cognitive complexities, and environmental repercussions. In this session, we will examine best practices ant techniques that strike a harmonious balance between optimizing performance, controlling costs, and promoting sustainability within Kubernetes environments with Karpenter.

Modern applications, especially those running on containerized platforms like Kubernetes, demand a high level of observability to ensure performance, security, and stability. DevOps practices are crucial, but achieving true visibility into complex Kubernetes environments can be challenging. This talk introduces the concept of Observability Maturity specifically within the context of Kubernetes and OpenTelemetry. We'll explore how to leverage OpenTelemetry, a vendor-neutral observability framework, to instrument your Kubernetes applications and achieve a mature level of observability.
