Margarita has been working in Tech, and in particular in OSS, for more than 20 years. She has worked in big tech and smaller startups, as both an individual contributor and a manager, experienced a number of successes and also some interesting challenges. This presentation will cover some of the lessons learned along the way, as well as discuss the different forms that success may look like for people interested in working 100% with Open Source Software.

Using the Flyte open source orchestrator, you'll see how all these features can be leveraged today from an ML pipeline developed in Python.

This case study between Cuemby and Guane Enterprises highlights the transformative impact of platform engineering on their approach to building efficient, agile, and innovative AI and ML solutions. The evolution towards more integrated and automated environments facilitated by platform engineering is evident in their collaboration. However, the risk of over-engineering and increased complexity can hinder simplicity and scalability. This talk will cover essential strategies to avoid these pitfalls, ensuring platform engineering enhances rather than complicates AI and ML operations. Attendees will gain insights into leveraging platform engineering to optimize cloud operations, fostering an environment of streamlined efficiency and innovation.

Kubernetes is a powerful tool for deploying microservices applications offering features such as auto-scaling and multi-tenancy among others. But, what about networking? How does communication between workloads take place? Which components ensure reliable communication?. This talk aims to answer these questions by delivering a high level overview about the networking building blocks. Attendees will embark on a journey that begins with exploring how CNIs (Container Network Interface) enable Pod to Pod communication. Next, we will discuss the options for exposing applications to the outside world. Finally, attendees will learn how the novel Service Mesh approach improves the observability and security of Kubernetes workloads while also bringing advanced routing capabilities. By the end of the session, attendees will have a solid understanding about the scope and operation of Kubernetes networking as well as its role in hosting cloud-native workloads.
